Interview to Davide Canavesio, President & CEO of Blooming Group SpA
What does “entrepreneurship” mean to you?
Entrepreneurship for me means starting projects and always being ready to face new challenges. I have felt like an entrepreneur since I was young. At university, lectures were sometimes held in cinemas that did not have desks for taking notes, so I asked my father to build handcrafted plexiglass and metal supports and I tried to sell them to my classmates. I did not sell many, because they were heavier than all the textbooks in a backpack, but over time I understood that I was not doing it for money. I saw a problem and I enjoyed finding a solution. This is the essence of entrepreneurship: having a proactive mindset, identifying challenges, building a vision and bringing talented people together to make it real.
What is the biggest experience or lesson gained on your growth journey so far?
Two words: finance and solitude. Finance, because I understood very early that companies are guided by numbers, with the balance sheet even before the income statement. For this reason, I chose to study finance in depth, because it is the language that allows responsible decisions. Solitude, because as I grew into roles with greater responsibility, I experienced it often. In key moments, making decisions also means standing alone. Over time, I learned to involve and collaborate with capable people who can really make a difference, transforming solitude into collective strength. From the family business to my current projects, this has been my path: financial competence, discipline in decision making and a network of alliances that increases impact.
How is your company acting as a game changer in the landscape?
Blooming stands out in retail because it introduces approaches that are still uncommon and is built on a long term industrial vision. We combine strong expertise in food, fashion and beauty with centralized management of finance, operations, HR and marketing.Our operational and strategic choices are data driven. We use analytics and digital tools such as Power BI and automation systems to continuously optimise performance, investments and processes. Most importantly, we place people at the centre, investing in training, opportunities for dialogue and initiatives that build a strong shared identity.Our development strategy follows principles of economic, social and environmental sustainability. A structured management team, with solid skills in retail, finance and network development, supported by clear governance and shared processes, makes Blooming a reliable partner recognised by leading players in the sector.
What Should Your Life Motto Be?
My personal and professional motto is: “Realists always know where to go, dreamers are already there.” Even when challenges seem very difficult, it is essential to keep the goal clear and not lose motivation, always looking for the best way to overcome obstacles.

The ELITE programme was a real discovery for us. Even though our CFO had already handled it in the past, at the beginning we were a bit sceptical, because in the short term we are not planning a stock market listing.

I would recommend it to every entrepreneur, as long as there is strong commitment from the management team: it must be experienced as an opportunity for reflection and growth, with the willingness to question and improve oneself.
